Our 100% Kona Cascara Coffee Cherry Tea, also known as Cascara tea, is a tea made from the dried coffee cherry skin (husk) of our delicious 100% Kona Gesha coffee. After the red skin (husk or outer layer) is removed from the coffee bean, we set it to sun-dry on elevated racks, until it reaches the optimal moisture levels.

This exquisite tea has been in high demand around the world and in USA during the last decade. However, it has been long consumed in another countries and coffee growing regions, like Africa, specifically in Yemen and Ethiopia, as well as in Bolivia, in South America. The name cascara is the equivalent word for husk in Spanish. Researchers have found that Cascara tea is high in antioxidants and has anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, its known to have about 25% of the caffeine contained in the coffee beans.

Serving suggestions:

HOT

  • 1 - 2 Tablespoons of dried cascara (adjust as needed, if you prefer a lighter or stronger flavor)

  • 12 ounces of water (1.5 cups)

    Place the cascara in a tea strainer or a French press. Bring the water to boil. Pour the hot water right over the cascara and let it cascara steep for 5-7 minutes. Then strain it or press it before pouring into your cup.

    Optional: Experience different flavor notes by adding / combining sugar or honey, orange slices, cinnamon or ginger.

COLD

Follow the steps listed above for HOT, and let the liquid cool. Place it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
